NMCUP's success extends beyond its seven member institutions.
The Council collaborates with state agencies, community colleges, research organizations, industry leaders, and education partners to advance higher education across New Mexico. Together, these alliances promote student success, workforce development, research, economic opportunity, and public policy.
The state agency that funds, regulates, and sets policy for all of New Mexico’s public colleges and universities. While NMHED governs, NMCUP advocates — the two organizations work in the same ecosystem with complementary but distinct roles.
New Mexico’s primary state agency for economic growth and workforce development. NMCUP member institutions are central partners in NMEDD’s science, technology, and innovation hub strategy, contributing research capacity, talent pipelines, and innovation infrastructure.
A nonprofit representing New Mexico’s community colleges through legislative advocacy, scholarship promotion, and collaboration with educational institutions statewide. NMACC and NMCUP share common ground in supporting student access and workforce readiness.

HIGHER EDUCATION REGENTS COALITION
A collaborative organization representing regents from New Mexico’s public higher education institutions. HERC supports communication, coordination, and shared understanding among governing board members on issues affecting higher education leadership, policy, stewardship, and long-term institutional success across the state.
A joint research institute of the University of New Mexico, in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory, advancing quantum information science through collaborative research, education, and workforce development. By uniting academia, national laboratories, industry, and government, QNM-I is positioning New Mexico as a global leader in quantum information science and technology.
A research partnership among five universities and two national laboratories — including UNM, NMT, and NMSU — dedicated to advancing discovery in climate science, water, and clean energy across the arid Southwest.
NMSU and UNM are both APLU members — a national research, policy, and advocacy organization representing more than 250 public universities across all 50 states. Through APLU, New Mexico’s flagship research universities connect to federal policy advocacy, best practices in student success, and national conversations about the future of public higher education.
AASCU shapes public policy and strengthens state college and university leadership to expand student access and success. The organization represents over 500 regional public colleges and universities united by a shared commitment to make affordable, high-quality education available to all students. Members share a learning-and-teaching-centered culture and a dedication to research and creativity to advance their regions’ economic progress and cultural development.
A nonprofit professional consortium connecting computing and IT professionals across more than 30 of New Mexico’s higher education institutions, including all NMCUP member universities and colleges. CHECS advances collaborative technology planning, cybersecurity coordination, and statewide IT alignment — supporting efficient, modern, and secure technology services for students, faculty, and institutions across the state.
Hosted by New Mexico State University, Global Campus expands access to high-quality online education for students from participating universities and colleges. With over 90 accredited programs, the platform offers flexible learning opportunities and personalized support for career growth.
